The Historical Society is delighted to share our searchable newspaper collection – 1,134 issues of the Carmel Valley Sun and Carmel Valley Outlook newspapers. When searching or browsing these rare archives, the fascinating history of Carmel Valley will come alive before your very eyes!

Below are some searching and viewing tips for using the Internet Archive:

COLLECTION VIEW

1. Under the Search this Collection field on the left, select Text contents.
2. Input key words into the Search this Collection field (i.e., airstrip) and then press enter. Your text matches will be highlighted in each issue. If no matches are found, the search will come back with “No results matched your criteria”. It is best to minimize the number of search words.
3. If you wish to narrow the focus to particular years, use the More ► feature in the left column. Simply check the box next to the year(s) desired.

ISSUE VIEW

5. Once viewing a particular issue, you can use the Search function located to the left of the display. Additional functions and adjustments, such as brightness and contrast, can be made by selecting the Ellipses (“3-dot”) icon.
6. When viewing an individual newspaper issue, note these helpful functions at the bottom of the page: 6A: flip pages left or right, 6B: single/multiple page views, 6C: read aloud, 6D: zoom, or 6E: full screen view.
