Anna Williams

Anna is a fifth generation Carmel Valleyite from two dairy and farming families, the Hattons and the Martins. She attended the former Carmelo Elementary School, where both her father and grandmother were students. Upon graduation from Carmel High, she earned her bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and teaching credential in social studies from U.C. Santa Cruz. For 32 years, Anna was a history teacher at Carmel Middle School, where the highlight of each spring was the Renaissance Faire created by her students for the rest of the school. She jokes that she never made it beyond 7th grade. The Carmel Valley Historical Society has been the focus of Anna’s volunteer efforts, serving as docent and member of the Collections Committee. Her most rewarding project to date has been to analyze the Donald Howard Collection of Rumsen, Esselen, and Salinan artifacts and repatriate its objects to their tribal owners or U.S. Government agencies.
